Calling all Indian B2B companies: InTech50 2016 – the global platform beckons again!!

With two super successful events in 2014 and 2015, InTech50 2016 is back – bigger than ever before.

For the uninitiated, InTech50 is a showcase of some of the most promising software products created by entrepreneurs from India. A panel of Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Venture Capitalists, and Product Leaders from previous successes will look out for fifty companies to make the cut to InTech50 selection criteria. Here are few reasons why you should apply( last date is 22nd Feb ’16).

  • An opportunity to showcase, get validation of the concept and product direction, better understanding of business value in the enterprise from Global CIOs.
  • High probability of being selected by Global CIO’s for pilot or early adoption.
  • Possibility of being selected by large product companies for add-on/bolt-on value add/partnerships to their large scale product solution sets.

Is it relevant for you? Yes it is, if you are a software product company that has aspirations to go global. Most importantly, you don’t need to travel abroad to seek your fortunes but rather the panel of experts comes to you in Bangalore, in India.

17220053885_5aa4bbf407_bThe program combines prospective buyers (CIOs) who will constructively critique your offering, funders (VCs and other investors) who will tell you why they will fund your product and mentors who will offer you that timely bit of advice that will give you the extra edge.

What’s in it for me? To answer that question, we are sharing some enthusiastic and overwhelming responses from people who were a part of InTech50 2015.

InTech 50 was an excellent opportunity to get attention from some of the top decision makers from India and US. I am very happy to say that some of the largest deals we did in the past year had their origins in Intech 50. It is probably the best networking and showcasing platforms for Enterprise technology companies in India. Sanjoe Jose, CEO, InterviewMaster

Congrats to you both on amazingly successful and proactive event. I have always had so much respect for how you all do all the right things to build be ecosystem. It is really commendable and we all entrepreneurs appreciate it so greatly. Thanks again! Valerie R Wagoner, Founder & CEO, ZipDial

This is a very unique event happening in India where in you are getting Global CIOs under one roof. I think this is god send for Indian CIO-focussed product companies like ours who want to go global. Manjunath M Gowda, CEO, i7networks

In my view, this was one of the best organized events in Bangalore in the recent past! I was quite impressed with the concept, companies that participated, their offerings, their passion and expertise etc. I have decided to buy the solutions offered by 2 of the companies for our internal use Kris Nair, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ascemdum

Thinkflow was one of the 50 companies that was chosen to be part of the first edition of InTech50 2014. It turned out to be a wonderful platform because we got an opportunity to showcase Thinkflow to a 50 global CIO’s and Intech50 gave us the opportunity to interact 101 with CIO and VC community. Conversations on the sidelines of InTech50 2014 led to multiple discussions on funding for Thinkflow and connecting with people who have helped us open conversations around sales and partnerships. Although we had a few good customers by April 2014, our selection to InTech50 and the press mentions made people take note of Thinkflow and our reach and recall with the CIO community increased substantially. For start-ups who are selling to the west, you cannot miss the InTech50 opportunity. Praveen Hari, Director – Alliances & Partnerships, ThinkFlow

When we at Whatfix decided to participate in inTech50, our initial expectations were limited to networking. But, the event turned out to be much more than that thanks to amazing participation by investors, start-ups and Fortune 500 company CIO’s. We were able to close big name clients like Procter & Gamble, iLantus and Nanobi. We are most definitely going to return every year! Khadim Bhatti, Whatfix

Thanks for organizing a wonderful event, esp, getting the top buyers in one place, is no easy task. KiSSFLOW had 5-6 inquiries and few VC interests too” Suresh Sambandam, Founder & CEO, KiSSFLOW

This year again, our Global Advisory Team has stalwarts like Ned Curic, Suren Gupta, Harmeen Mehta, Jack Pressman, Sashi Reddy, Narendra Kale and more… The startups will get an opportunity to showcase their wares to this highly selective team, giving them the opportunity to get a global footprint, right here in India.

Startups, please note – There is no application fee. 50 companies will be shortlisted by the Advisory Board comprising global and Indian CIO’s, product company heads, venture capitalists, and analysts. The selected companies will need to pay a fee of Rs. 25,000 to cover the expenses for two attendees. Only the 50 shortlisted companies will get to attend the event.

22nd February, 2016 is the deadline to submit your entry.

Nominations are open for MINT MIT Innovators Under 35

If you have been reading Mint lately (and most people who read Product Nation do), you must have come across the Mint/MIT search for the Top 10 Innovators under 35. Organised by Mint in association with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the India edition will shortlist India’s top 10 innovators in the technology space to compete for the global awards. This is a prime opportunity for our product people to stake a claim on what will undoubtedly be a very prestigious list.
Mint35Mint has been working silently by helping good startups coming out of our country with some good coverage and quality business journalism, and this is another bit of proof about their involvement with the ecosystem we are trying to build and foster.
iSPIRT is also onboard this initiative as a think tank partner. The panel which will select the final ten will include Amit Phadnis, Brian Bergstein, R Sukumar, Raghav Narsalay, Rajesh Janey, Prof. Amitabha Chattopadhyay, Ravi Narayan and Deepti Doshi. They will select a shortlist of 10 individuals from among the people who apply or are nominated, and the shortlisted innovators will present at EmTech India on 18th and 19th March in New Delhi.

Anyone who is under the age of 35 as on 1st October 2016 and has a brilliant idea on technological innovation and applied research is eligible, and can be nominated by others.

EmTech India will be a multidisciplinary innovation conference with a focus on technology and applied science, and there will soon be an announcement of the line up of speakers, with which Mint is being very secretive. You would be right in expecting some surprises on this front.

Do submit your nomination at emtech.livemint.com, where you’ll find more information on the event and the selection process. If you don’t know who to nominate or are too shy to apply, share this immediately with your friends and colleagues so that at least they might do so. Five reasons to attend #PNgrowth

Ever since we opened registrations for #PNgrowth, we wanted to do a list of this sort, to make it easier for those who wish to  attend to have a look and decide whether this program is helpful for them. But somehow we never got around to it until now.

#PNgrowth is now red hot, and we have three applicants for every place on the program. We still want to tell everyone about it because only a small fraction of the applicants will qualify for this program.

So here you go, five reasons you should be at #PNgrowth –

1. Handcrafted for the Indian Startup eco-system by iSPIRT and B-school professors from Stanford and Duke.

For the first time in the Indian ecosystem, evangelists and academia come together to design a program that will give maximum returns to the participants. With iSPIRT’s experience conducting Bootcamps and Roundtables across the country, and the experience of faculty from the Stanford and Duke school of businesses, the program has basically been handcrafted for Indian startups. You’ll know when you’re there.

2. Three day residential kick off event

Infosys Mysore has been kind enough to volunteer the space and infrastructure necessary for a program of this scale. The three day residential kickoff camp will take place at one of Indian tech hubs. This is followed by a year-long engagement with each Startup to help them achieve their goals.

3. Focus on category leadership

#PNgrowth is designed for the company which has already done the hard yards and  has potential to ascend from profitability to category leadership. The program will help organisations get past this transition without losing sight of the goal, which is to become category leaders in their space.

4. The best mentors in the country

#PNgrowth has the advantage of being able to bring into the program some of the best mentors in the country. With iSPIRT’s(Mavens) network of India’s most successful entrepreneurs who have been there, done that, some of these mentors at #PNgrowth is like a who’s who of the Indian startup scene.

5. Months of follow-up through remote hangouts and peer-based learning

And lastly, the program is a long term investment. The aim, which is category leadership, will be achieved through several months of follow-on remote coaching, mentorship and peer-based learning. You will have direct contact with mentors and will be able to ask them questions as and when they arise for you. This isn’t just rare for the ecosystem. It’s unprecedented.

Now that we’ve said our bit, do come over, look at our entire program, and decide. We would love to see you in Mysore! apply now, before you miss the Mysore bus.

SaaSx2 – The Afterword

SaaSx2 just got over last week, and we’ve been talking to several people who attended about what they liked, what they didn’t, and what they might want more of when we plan SaaSx3.

We have the ratings from the attendees and also several testimonials that we pored through to get these up for you.

Fireside Chat 1 : Aneesh with Ahi & Asha Fireside Chat 2 : Girish with Sumanth Onething Series by Shekhar Kirani Unconference by Dorai Thodla Key Note by Hiten Shah Food and Venue
4.25 4.56 4.02 4.03 3.59 4.23

Positive: I thought it was one of the most relevant events for SaaS startups in India and probably the best one. It was unbelievable how experienced entrepreneurs and VCs were sharing everything from trade secrets to actual numbers. While the main event was great, I am a big fan of the RTs and the Funding RT was very very valuable. I can’t stress that enough. Looking forward to SaaSX3. I know it will be bigger but I hope iSpirt will be able to maintain the quality, personalization, and energy of the event. I found Shekhar Kirani, Karthik (Blume), Girish, Suresh, and Arvind’s inputs far far more valuable and actionable. No wonder iSpirt calls it ‘Playbook’. I think this is what differentiates iSpirt and SaaSX from the all noise on the web. Real SaaS insights for early stage startups. ~Gautam – Scanova

Excellent event. Very well laid out with something of companies at different stages of growth. Enough time and opportunity to engage, network and discuss with participants which often is not the case. Kudos to all experienced and matured entrepreneurs who were gave a very rare peek into their journey with concrete data. Already looking forward to next round of sassyness with more fellow entreprenuers ~Rohan – Evok Analytics

This was one of the best events orchestrated by iSpirt. 10x improvement over the last SaaSx which in itself was very good. Each event and the overall agenda seem to have been very well thought through and I am sure a lot of planning went into it. For me the best part of the agenda was the fireside chat with Girish – simply superb and thanks Girish, for sharing things so openly, things that you would have otherwise never shared. Kudos to the iSpirt team for putting together this very well curated event. Kudos to all the speakers and participants for their dedicated effort and time they put in and who genuinely seem to care about the product ecosystem in general and the SaaS one in particular ~Sanjay Shah – Zapty

A very good event with product centric crowd. The openness with which the speakers put forward their experiences and shared their knowledge was nothing short of exemplary. Great Event. Great People. Hoping for similar event in Bangalore! ~Rishav – RazorPay

The difference between iSPIRT’s Playbook RTs and what we have planned for the #PNgrowth Camp

We are now only about 90 days away from what will be a first of many sorts in the Indian ecosystem. The #PNgrowth camp at the Infosys campus in Mysore will be the first long-term program ever initiated for product startups in India. That much has been established. But at the Google hangout we were in yesterday, where we talked about what to expect at #PNgrowth and the process by which we were screening applicants, there arose a question that needed to be answered.

Some of our applicants are asking themselves about the need for a program like this when they have already been getting a lot of insights from our hugely successful Playbook RTs and other events.

I just wanted to make clear the difference between them, as they are both completely different beasts.

First, on content

The Playbook RTs are solutions for the problems that startups face in the here and now. Startups have an extraordinary amount of daily challenges and decisions to be made. Playbook RTs are designed to help founders and employees navigate them. On the other hand, the #Pngrowth camp is a long term mentorship/peer learning program that is focussed and has only one one aim – category leadership. The Playbook RTs are pointed, razor-sharp workshops, the #PNgrowth camp is a university course. The former will award you a diploma and send you off, the latter will give you an education for life.

Second, on numbers

Around 860+ people have, until now, been part of the Playbook RTs. The #PNgrowth camp will have only 200, and that’s it for the whole year. The #PNgrowth camp is selective, and open to product startups at a particular stage of their life cycle – when they need to scale. This selectiveness also means that we have to disappoint several startups who will want to join the program but aren’t in the perfect stage to. We intend to be very choosy here; this is a premier program whose graduates will come out with skills that can never be learnt elsewhere, and therefore it has to be this way.

Third, on the question of overlap

The Playbooks are tactical meetings almost, with different approaches aimed at something immediately tangible. #PNgrowth will design the architecture for the path ahead for startups looking to scale. Playbook RTs are peer-fuelled. #PNgrowth has a important component of academia involvement that will make sure that it succeeds as a long term program for improvement and action. Though the two can be complementary, they are definitely not substitutes. They are very different from each other, and aim to do two completely different things for the ecosystem.

I hope that makes clear the distinction between both of them.

Lastly, I’d like to stress once again the fact that #PNgrowth is going to be incredibly selective and there will be no last minute places. Each applicant goes through a screening process, and there will be no exceptions to that rule. Which means that if you are even slightly interested, please do apply immediately.

CanvasFlip – The fastest and most awesome way to design an interactive prototype for Mobile Apps

We got to hangout with Vipul Mishra, Co-Founder of CanvasFlip – the fastest and most awesome way to design an interactive prototype. If you are a business that needs to design an app, read on…

What prompted the idea for CanvasFlip and who is your main target audience?

As a start up in the user experience domain, we get many requests inquiring about the standard practice in mobile app UX. Most queries relate to challenges faced in visualizing application flow among product managers, app designers and app developers. To address this challenge, CanvasFlip, a SaaS based mobile apps prototyping platform that aids in the designing process and allows multiple stakeholders to collaborate, was conceived. Our TG is any business that needs to design an app that gives an awesome experience to their customers.

Tell us about the main team at CanvasFlip and what keeps you all motivated and inspired to improvise and innovate?

CanvasFlip is our most recent venture which I co-founded with Manish. Manish takes care of the product development and operation, while I take responsibilities of business development and marketing. Me and Manish started our professional career together at Mahindra Satyam and launched Yougle.in, FbViralVideos, Slurrp and few mobile games as a hobby projects.

In earlier days, our motivation was to challenge ourselves if (and how efficiently) we can solve a particular problem. If there was something that could be done better, we took at shot at it. But now, feeling of making life easier for our clients while building a sustainable and profitable business is what keeps us improving and innovating.

How does CanvasFlip’s subscription work? Is it a free app? What are the available subscription plans?

We offer a 30 day trial period at the end of which users are given the option to subscribe to a monthly or annual plan. As a practice we don’t charge subscribers for a normal overage usage, charges are levied when the overage is consistent.

Describe the features of the app? How does it work? What sets it apart from the competition?

The very reason we founded CanvasFlip was to enable Mobile UX Flow visualization for all the stakeholders (Product Managers, App Designers and Dev team) rather than focusing only on app designers. To realize our vision we introduced few unique and disruptive offerings:

Automatic UX Sitemap generation
(When you create the prototype of your mobile app, a UX site map is created enabling a top level view of your project)

Canvasflip1

Real time Collaboration with team
(You can communicate with your team in real time. Suggest changes and track them)

Canvasflip2

How has the journey been so far? What have been the best rewards? What have been the major challenges? What is the biggest learning you got so far?

It’s been great and with CanvasFlip being judged as the winner of the first edition of Hot100 Technology Awards, 2014, I can say it has been rewarding as well. Shortage of skilled people is one of the biggest challenges that entrepreneurs in this field face. Finding people with above par programming skills was a major hurdle. Everyday has been a learning experience for us. Some of the most important things that we’ve learnt in the process of setting up canvas Flip are – commitment is the main differentiator between dreamers and achievers; overcoming the fear of taking risks is important for success and achieving your vision; and most importantly your product must add value to the client, otherwise it is of no use.

What are the future plans for CanvasFlip? How do you envision the company taking shape in the coming years? Are there any new offerings that customers should be looking forward to?

We started to make life easier for all stakeholders in an app development process and I believe we have just scratched the surface. We interview 20-25 Product Managers, designers and app developers every week to identify the user behavior. Based on their feedback and usage pattern, we are constantly improving to offer the best in class experience of prototyping and collaboration.

We are soon coming up with ready-to-use App UX templates in various category to save hours of research time for budding entrepreneurs. Also, very soon users will be able to change their flow directly from UX Site maps/flow-charts. Every Sunday, we make a minor release and new features are communicated over the email. So, register at CanvasFlip.com and we’ll keep you posted about new updates.

After the interview with Vishal, we just wished we were hired and paid well by a company to create apps. We would be rocking the scene !! On a serious note, it is heartening to note that we are racing ahead, pace by pace, to be the ‘product nation’ of the world. And the ‘wind beneath our wings’ is disruption and innovation. And the team at CanvasFlip seemed to have aced that.

Wishing them luck…

With inputs from Ritika Singh

D-Day at InTech50 (2015 edition)

Finally…

Here is wishing all of you – happy pitching, selling and buying…

Today, ‘fantastic fifty’ Product Founders will showcase their solution potential, and work collaboratively with buyers, investors and partners to shape, and create a plan to take their solutions to global markets—a true sign of India’s potential in innovation.

We are satisfied to see not only the quantity, but the impressive quality of our startups this year. It was indeed a tough call to curate ‘the fifty.’  Go on people, enjoy your place under the sun.

We would like to reiterate here that we are not seasonal. Please feel free to reach out to us, whenever…

Look forward to some ‘real’ business today and tomorrow.

Cheers
